Popnight

whats this clubnight all about then?

It is held at the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham every second saturday of the month in the red room (upstairs). Entry is free if you are in the bar before 10:15pm, otherwise it costs £5/6 depending on NUS and stuff. Once you are in, you can move around between the three rooms in the Rescue Rooms (the bar, the red room, and the main hall) as well as the sister venue, Stealth where they have Liars Club on the ground floor and various bleepy nights in the upstairs room. So thats five rooms of music and two outdoor patio areas if you fancy having a smoke or something.

If you’re wondering what sort of music gets played, have a look at the past setlists. Requests are encouraged (but NO, we won’t play bloc party, system of a down or the fucking kooks!)… If you ask for something and we say “no chance” then theres not much point in arguing to try and get it played. you will be told if your song will be played, we arent the sort of DJ’s who go “yeah yeah, in a bit…” and then ignore your request. (spiky mike, we’re looking at you here!)
Occasionally, we’ll go off on one and have a bit of an old-skool special. a recent session involved loads of early 90’s dance and rave (s-express, bomb the bass, KLF, altern-8, and loads more stuff you may not have heard for nearly 10 years. if you have any suggestions for future “off on one” sessions, then get in touch!)

Earlier on in the night (10-11:30ish) is usually when all the newer stuff (or more obscure tunes) gets played. pop tunes you may not have heard yet, and bands you probably aren’t aware of. it’s all good stuff, but at that time, people aren’t lubricated enough to dance en masse yet, so it’s a good opportunity to try out some potential future dancefloor fillers (“pump it” by black eyed peas, “maneater” by Nelly Furtado, “umbrella” by Rihanna and “Song 4 Mutya” by Groove Armada/Mutya Buena are good examples of songs that got played early on – long before they hit the charts and became the dancefloor fillers they are now!)
Finally, make sure you sign up for the mailing list. You’ll be emailed reminders of when the night is on, stuff like setlists, info on website updates, as well as occasional goodies like competitions where you may or may not win CDs or guestlist entry to the club. that sort of thing… you wont be emailed more than a few times a month, and your details will NEVER be passed on to other sources!
